Upcoming 2009 - 2010 Events for Scouts, Leaders, and Families - Tuesday, August 18, 2009

This past summer's Day Camp was a lot of fun; make sure you try to attend next summer!

Here are a few upcoming events for the 2009 - 2010 school year:

  1. Webelos Weekend at Camp Alexander is Aug 21-23. POC – Lisa Holstein, lonesomeduckhalf@yahoo.com
  2. Cubs Weekend (Tigers, Wolves and Bears) at Camp Alexander is Aug 28-30. POC – Lisa Holstein, lonesomeduckhalf@yahoo.com.
  3. American Soldier Scout Day, Aug 29, 12-5 pm. Scouts can earn advancement by attending and participating. Tickets are $5 each at www.americansoldiertribute.com.
  4. Family Camp at Camp Alexander (for all Cub Ranks and their families) is Sep 4-6. $22 per person (10 & up), $12 per person (5-9), FREE for 4 and below. Register at the Council Activity Center.
  5. Scouting Serves the Jewish Community – Kickoff for the Jewish Religious Awards Activity on Sep 10 at, at 6:30 pm (right before roundtable) at the LDS church (by Chapel Hills Mall). POC – Lisa Holstein, lonesomeduckhalf@yahoo.com.
  6. Tiger Day at America the Beautiful Park, Sep 26. No times announced yet but probably 8am – 3pm. Fun day for Tiger and Adult Partner to work on Tiger Cub requirements. Sign-up form is in the Files section of the website. Drop the form off at Pikes Peak Council offices.
  7. 2009 Christian Faith Religious Awards Retreat will be held Oct 10th at the Ave Maria Catholic School, 9056 E. Parker Road, Parker CO. This is open to Cub Scouts AND Girl Scouts!  Sign-up form is in the Files section of the website.
  8. Veterans Day Parade Nov 7. POC is Bob Simmons, simmonsabw@gmail.com


For future planning, here are the 2010 Pikes Peak Council and Jamboree District Events

  1. Winterspree for Cub Scouts, Jan 30, 2010 (last Saturday in Jan) at USAFA.
  2. Klondike Derby Feb 26-28, 2010 (last weekend in Feb). Location is TBD
  3. Jamboree District Pinewood Derby, March but date is TBD
  4. Scouting For Food Drive Apr 10, 2010 (2nd Saturday in Apr)
  5. Cub Scout Day Camps, July but date is still TBD
  6. Cub Scout Webelos Resident Camps Aug 6-8 & Aug 13-15
  7. Cub Scout Resident Camps for Tigers, Wolves and Bears Aug 20-27
  8. “100th Anniversary” Council Fall Camporee, Oct 8-10, 2010 near Phil Long Expo Center
  9. Veteran’s Day Parade – Nov 6, 2010
 
Training Events for Den Leaders and Pack Staff - Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Training for Den Leaders. We need to shoot for getting everyone trained this year.

 

  1. Outdoor Skills for Webelos Den Leaders-Oct 16 and 17, County Fairgrounds in Hugo CO – Hwy 40. This course is for Webelos Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders. ONE Webelos Scout Outdoor Skills Trained adult must accompany a Webelos camp out. Pre-register by Oct 13 at www.pikespeakbsa.org. For more information, contact Jack Spears at mr.scouter@yahoo.com.
  2. Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Training for scout leaders-Oct 17, 8am – 5pm, County Fairgrounds in Hugo CO – Hwy 40. . This course teaches you the focus of Cub Scout level camping. $5 fee. ONE BALOO has to accompany any Cub Scout camping event. Pre-register by Oct 13 at www.pikespeakbsa.org. For more information, contact Jack Spears at mr.scouter@yahoo.com.
  3. There is a new course for new leaders called “This is Scouting” (Code: WA01) that takes the place of “New Leader Essentials”. It takes around 1 hour to complete and is online at the BSA Online Learning Center at olc.scouting.org.
  4. We all need to make sure our Youth Protection Training is current. It also takes around 1 hour to complete and is online at the BSA Online Learning Center at olc.scouting.org.
  5. We also all need to make sure we have done Cub Scout Leader Fast Start. It also takes around 1 hour to complete and is online at the BSA Online Learning Center at olc.scouting.org.
  6. Finally, all Den Leaders should try and take the live “Cub Scout Leader Position Specific Training for Den Leaders” at the Sep 10 (7pm) and Oct 8 (7pm) Jamboree District Roundtables. If a Den Leader does 3 – 6 then he/she gets the “trained” designation and patch.
